Kimberly Walker specializes in modern lifestyle photography of families. Keeping her work spontaneous and real, Kimberly shoots on-location, using only natural light. This gives her the freedom to move about with you and your family, capturing natural interactions and expressions.
What inspired you to become a photographer?
I have always loved taking photos but I started to take it more seriously when my niece and nephews were born. I realized how quickly they were changing – every time I would visit they would have grown, their hair would be longer, they would be moving faster and saying more. I felt like I wanted to take every moment and bottle it up so I would remember them exactly as they were. Now that I am a mother myself, I feel it even more.
How would you characterize your style?
Fresh, modern and authentic – photos that are interesting and beautiful, but at the same time represent your real life. It’s not about photos of the whole family posing and smiling for the camera; it’s the interaction that goes on behind the scene. It’s the connection, laughter, games, cuddles, a loving glance – these are the moments you want to remember, that tug at your heart and make all the hard work at the end of the day worth it.
Who are your clients and what should they expect?
My clients are real people. They are parents with spit-up on their shirts who haven’t slept more than 4 hours straight in weeks. They are kids who want to run, jump and leap. They are babies who are curious and on the move. My clients value photography and know that their lives right now, however crazy and hectic they may be, are worth capturing. I will encourage you to interact and play ¬– sing songs, tell jokes and stories, read books, hug, cuddle, run around, wrestle.
