Art Classes for Kids at My ArtLab

My ArtLab is a Riverdale gem that offers art classes for kids and their caregivers through a variety of fun, engaging, and inspirational classes. Led by local artist Andjelija Djuric, classes are available for a wide-range of age groups and teach art skills, while exposing kids to other subjects, like music, drama, language, literacy and science. I recently stopped by during a baby class and had a fabulous time.

The Space

Art classes, My Art Lab interior

Located in a bright and airy studio filled with colour, movement, and pure joy, My ArtLab oozes creativity and fun from every pore. Children are provided with a large open space, tables, paints, brushes and variety of other materials and media. Exploration and experimentation are encouraged. Children are given the freedom to create by following their own interests rather than a prescribed set of instructions. Andjelija acts as a facilitator by providing guidance, encouragement and the materials to let each child discover his or her own creativity. Children learn from Andjelija, their care givers and each other as they experience the joy of creating without boundaries. They are even allowed to paint on the windows and walls if they’re so inclined, and one entire wall has been converted into a chalk board for more drawing possibilities.

The Programs

Art classes at My Art Lab Toronto

My ArtLab offers four on-site programs and Andjelija is also available for private parties and school workshops.

Creative Playtime with Baby (3–18 months): In this class, caregivers and babies explore and discover art while they navigate through a new studio set-up at each session. Accompanied by music, movement and play, babies and caregivers learn and bond as they experiment with shapes, colours and textures.

Lilliput Lab (18–36 months): Focusing on painting, printing, drawing and building, caregivers and their children are encouraged to use objects and materials to make magical creations. Music and movement is also used to encourage and inspire young imaginations.

Wonder Lab (3–5 years): Using fairy tales and fables as inspiration, Wonder Lab classes combine art with drama, as kids create objects that breathe life into the stories. Children are presented with a variety of mediums to construct projects like masks, mobiles, puppets, picture books, and three-dimensional characters.

Treasure Lab (5–12 years): Exploring connections between art and science, Treasure Lab classes focus on experimenting with materials, techniques and technology. Children use technology to animate, as well as materials to construct three-dimensional models and installations.
