Events in Toronto: Midtown Toronto Celebrates Summer with Restaurantacular

On  June 26th, 2012, Toronto Mom Now atteneded The 1st Annual Mount Pleasant Village BIA Restaurantacular to help shine a light on local restaurants and we discovered some other exciting events along the way.

The best part of Restaurantacular was that every business involved prepared a special menu of $2, $4 and $6 items to encourage people to try new cuisine at restaurant after restaurant and create a social food setting for everyone to enjoy.

After wandering up and down Mount Pleasant to check out the venues involved I have to say that Culinarium and Pimenton did the best job of creating excitement about Restaurantacular with Ontario fresh food deals being prepared out front of their venues. In the future I highly recommend that all the restaurants involved prepare their specials outside, in order to draw people in and encourage parents to stop with their kids, without having to commit to taking children into each place.

After taste testing some of midtown’s best fare, Toronto Mom made our way to June Rowlands Park where we attended the latest market in town, by Appletree Markets which is held every Tuesday from 3pm-7pm and promotes local community shopping. We’ll be posting a feature on the new market soon but in the mean time we can tell you that the most original thing we tried was homemade bacon jam and the fresh produce is delicious.

While we were at the park, TMN also ran into one of our Top Mom Bloggers, Erika Ashmore who was out with a group of moms for her monthly GTA Babywearing Walk. Erika is a wealth of information about safe baby and toddler wearing and you can find her crew at June Rowlands Park every Tuesday for market time and splash pad fun.

As though Restaurantacular, the new market and meeting friends in the park wasn’t enough excitement for our day out, we also checked out Zen Beginnings End of Year Party at the park where kids were treated to free lemonade, a colouring & craft station and free yoga.

After a fun filled day of celebrating the summer with great local foods and kid friendly events in the park, Toronto Mom Now was happy to attend the first Restaurantacular and we look forward to attending more great events put on by the Mount Pleasant Village BIA.

  1. I agree with your assessment of Restaurantacular, everyone felt confused that there wasn’t more happening on the street and while the BIA says it’s too expensive to shut the street down, each restaurant should at least have a presence. Good job Culinarium, it’s amazing what some balloons and finger foods can do!
