If you’re a mom in Toronto or visiting T.O. this Earth Day weekend, try getting a little retail therapy in at one of Toronto’s many coveted consignment stores and be sure to stop by midtown gem, Second Nature Boutique. By choosing consignment, you can confidentially call anything you buy Eco-Fashion because giving clothing new life is an earth preserving act.
Consignment shopping is the fashionable big sister to thrift shopping, offering better quality second hand and vintage items that have been carefully juried, cleaned and are ready to wear.
In Toronto there are many designer resale shops so to choose the best one for you, it depends on what you’re looking for. One of the longest running high end consignment shops is Shoppe D’or, located in the heart of Yorkville at #18 Cumberland Ave. This store has been in business for 67 years and is known for offering the best of the best designer brands like Lavin, Chanel and more.
One of the most popular newer high end consignment stores is ReMIX located downtown at Queen and Bathurst. This shop is a haven for budding fashionistas looking to get a deal on their latest must have handbags and accessories and they even have a handbag waiting list.
If you’re searching for a more practical place to shop consignment on a budget, Bloor West is home to Coco’s Closet which has a good selection of designer brands that are well priced. This store is quickly gaining a reputation as a go-to destination for fabulous work wear and the shop is also well laid out.
There are many other good consignment stores in Toronto but Toronto Mom is here to tell you what makes Second Nature Boutique the best.
Designer finds for any budget
Located in the heart of midtown’s Mount Pleasant village, Second Nature has been a family run business for 38 years and women in the neighborhood, young and old alike know they can trust the store’s selection to suit their style and budget.
Second Nature Boutique offers three full floors of consignment shopping at its finest and whether you’re looking for a formal gown or red carpet attire or searching for the seasons on trend items at prices you can afford, they’ve got what you need.
If you’re a mom who dreams of being fashionable on a budget, don’t sweat it just head down to the lower level of Second Nature where the term ‘bargain basement prices’ is an everyday reality.
In recent months I have found such wardrobe staples as an authentic Louis Vuitton bag for under $20, tan leather Cole Haan loafers for $10 (they’re as comfortable as house slippers) and believe it or not, even a hot pink silk, red carpet gown for $10.
If you have a bigger budget for shopping, the main floor at Second Nature is the place for you. Many of their clients bring in off the runway items and high end designer duds with the original tag still on them. In addition to offering both classic and on trend women’s clothing, Second Nature also boasts a large assortment of accessories from shoes and jewelry to purses, evening bags, sun glasses and scarves.
Open 6 days a week, Second Nature Boutique is by far the best designer retail store in Toronto and while they accept credit and debit payment, be sure to bring cash to get extra savings at the register. Their staff are all knowledgeable but be on the look out for store manager Paula Grunspan who knows fashion so well she gives Gene Becker a run for her money.
