Consciously Shopping Toronto: Getting Ready to Travel with your Family

If you’re taking off on a family adventure away from home, you already know there are so many things us moms have to plan and prepare beforehand. After years of traveling with my family of five, there are a few tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way. Shopping Toronto for these great travel goods, you’ll find everything you need for a healthy vacation away with your loved ones.

Consciously Shopping Toronto for Travel

1. BYO Healthy Snacks

Consciously Shopping Toronto A good traveler leaves no tracks. -Lao TzuTo avoid airplane food (a.k.a. fake stuff wrapped in plastic) bring your own. Choose healthy snacks that are allergy sensitive and take barely any prep. This will show respect to the sensitivities of those sitting near you, and make your life easy. Mary’s Sticks & Twigs are filled with organic and gluten-free whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, amaranth and millet) as well as nutritious seeds (like flax, sesame and chia). You can also tie over your family’s hungry tummies for a few hours with Go Raw bars “live” food that you can bring on the go, made with yummy, organic, raw ingredients. For a hot sipper, take your organic tea leaves to-go, in a bag that’s not bleached and shut with staples, like Mighty Leaf’s organic whole leaf loose tea, packed in biodegradable silken tea pouches. Although these treats may not be “fresh”, they can legally cross a border! Shop Toronto’s best health food stores these healthy snacks and more.

2. Care-to-Go

Less is always more, but even more so when you’re travelling. Pack multitasking accessories that every member of the family can share, making for lighter luggage and a lighter (travel) footprint.  Instead of packing a different cream for skin irritations, scratches, and sunburns, Therawise’s Skin Healing Ointment is one tube that heals everything and is a safe alternative to corticosteroids, anti-itch and antibacterial ointment. You can find it at your local Rexall when you’re out consciously shopping Toronto. For the ultimate travel shampoo, body wash, conditioner, moisturizer and all-purpose balm (all in 3 little bottles!) pick up a worldTRIO from worldSALON before you take off. They can be used interchangeably on both skin and hair, and all three “travel” bottles are under 100ml so you can even pack them on your carry-on.

3. Lightweight Luggables

Don’t leave home without some good hats. They protect you from harmful rays, cover your travel hair (re: bed head) nicely, or just wear them to look good! Visit Patagonia, they have caps  made ethically from 100% organic cotton. And they carry some great versatile travel bags too. Thankfully, their goods are fashionable, functional, luggable and eco-safe. Live simply.
